Binary package hint: lighttpd
The lighttpd init file performs `chmod` and `chown` on the PID file
every time it's run. This should only be done under certain actions of
the init file as it is not necessary for the "status" action.

`/etc/init.d/lighttpd status` cannot be run as a non-root user. When I

install is not built for Ubuntu. Can you confirm that this software has
Ubuntu or any Linux support?
Also, I noticed that some of the sentences in this bug
I believe this is related to bug 424991 in that `/etc/init.d/lighttpd`
assumes directory locations and 109559 and permissions when this should
be pulled from a config file like `/etc/default/lighttpd` or something.
I'm not familiar enough with with bash scripting to know what to do to

This bug appears to be fixed in vanilla 2.6.39. I built and installed
2.6.39 loosely following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild and used Ubuntu-X ppa
for updated fglrx drivers. Booting to that, I no longer have this issue,
and am able to boot without any problem
I've confirmed this happens while using both fglrx and radeon X drivers.
And while recovery (single) mode does occasionally work (for me), a
majority of the time, it gives the same message.
