This is caused by the postinst script created by dh_icons and only
causes a problem when libgtk2.0-bin is installed (brings in update-icon-
caches). The postinst script should check that the icons directory
exists as well as update-icon-caches being installed.

impossible. A regular user can also cause KDM to exceed the
system resource limits.
KDM can be tricked into hanging or eating memory by reading from

Since there is an ABI change I can understand apps from outside our
repository not building. I tested last.fm and skype and they both run

I'm not altogether happy with making everything a recommends. Packages
are recommends where there's good reasons for people to remove them but
still have a Kubuntu Desktop. If you start removing all applications
you may as well just not install kubuntu-desktop.

Actually the problem is that language-pack-kde-nds-base recommends
language-support-nds, which doesn't exist and this confuses some package
managers.

necessary packaging changes to automatically detect the distro specific
parts.

pkgDepCache::writeStateFile to ept's cache which was needed by ubuntu's
apt. However the cache code it patched is now gone so it is no longer
