I was able to replicate the bug by first setting the highli
I apologize: The first sentence of my last comment is inaccurate. I was able
to reproduce the error with very few characters and as little as one line.
Also, I did another test: I typed a shell script comment line in the first
line of code, ran the external command, and checked the results

The help docs for xsane are in a separate package, named xsane-doc. Use
Synaptic or aptitude to install it. Some program packages "depend" on
their corresponding doc package, making it mandatory to install the
documentation. xsane, however, does not.
