The CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.28.0 manual (in 9.10 Karmic) is
somewhat out of date.
The Introduction page of the manual has Figure 3, which shows "Frequency
selector showing both frequencies and governors". These are no longer

In 11.04 (Natty) the Metacity theme suddenly changes to a basic theme
with the exception of the title bar, which remains the same. Trying to
change the theme results in the theming being fixed in some programs
some of the time (such as Chrome) but not others (such as Nautilus)

Hello IKT,
This is not the same bug as best as I can tell; the theming works fine
until it suddenly changes (and then won't change back properly in all
programs). It has done this a number of times now.
If it might be relevant, I'm using a Unity 2D session.

Hello again,
I haven't experienced the problem very recently but the next time I do,
I'll make sure to get the relevant bits.
As it stands, my .xsession-errors is over 30MB in size, apparently
mainly due to some programs I've run in Wine.

Finally got it! Here's the xsession-errors for the day. Things appear to
get interesting towards the end:
"The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial
And the syslog from the hour in which it happened, with a small amount
of irrelevant info ***'ed out. Doesn't look like much activity.

problem is occuring in Virtualbox, as where this is happening on a live

To add, the bug listed there is also said to occur shortly after logging

I'm going to add gnome-settings-daemon to this bug and remove metacity
for now.
