I had the same problem with a Dell laptop (vostro 1320). It occurs after the
latest upgrades.
With the life CD and before the upgdate there were no problems.
After a new installation I started the actualisation and deselected 'hal,
libhal1, libhal-storage1'. Now WLAN works fine.

I tried compiling from source. Running configure ends with an error:

Seams to be a problem with karmic.
I'm using audacity and I cannot record audio. With jaunty there was no problem.
May be the reason is, to make the UI of the audio settings more simply.
My audio harware: Nvidia MCP55 audio adapter.
Hope that there will be a quick fix. Otherwise I must go back t
+1 for packaging Apache OpenOffice.
