not as great as it should have been. I propose that we wait until the
8.43 release because currently the fglrx driver cannot be compiled with
the 2.6.23 kernel (at least on 64bit).

When the user is doing "ping -f myhostname.tld", ping does a ipaddr->hostname
request at EACH packet. Which is quite a lot when used with a -f option.
Moreover it is quite useless as when used with -f, ping doesnt display the

I've got the same problem here. Indeed, there's a difference between
18.04 (nrpe v3) & older releases which contain nrpe v2. However the nrpe
client has an option to force backward compatibility: check_nrpe -2,
which should work with older server. The error stays exactly the same
nevertheless.
I've done some more digging.
It's definitely related to the upgrade from v2 to v3. My syslog from the nagios

rendered, AFAIK using nouveau has disabled shadows (possibly due to
lower performance of graphics card on nouveau) however the shadows are
enabled using the proprietary Nvidia driver 361.42...

I have what seems to be a variant of the same problem, but not fixable
with the workaround mentioned above. I upgraded a couple of days ago
from Ubuntu Gnome 17.4 to Ubuntu 17.10, and now various of my global
locale settings are incorrect in Gnome Shell 3.26. I set all the LC_*
variables to "en_GB.
@Gunnar: Thanks, but it is already set to United Kingdom (and the
machine has been restarted several times). But my half-Spanish locale
persists.

New possible workaround
on a terminal type: unity
ie
user@machine:-$ unity
this possibly restarts unity/compiz and corrects the bad border issue
although, it may also close/crash and web-browser type of programs.
