Without enabling SHMconfig I'm successful using the follwing command:
syndaemon -i 2 -d
Leaving off -S as directly above tells updated syndaemon's to use
xinput rather than SHMconfig shared memory. If I leave off the -d and
run from the command line I can see the touchpad be disabled and
enabled
I see the same results. The expected result would be no error message in
the syslog when the device was plugged in, and a proper avi test.avi
file that would contain the captured video.

I'm not surprised that there is no [EMAIL PROTECTED] mode. I don't see where
that mode would come from.
There is a default mode for [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the Ubuntu supplement to
extramodes, however. I can't see in the log where defaultmodes are being

I had the same problem, including the "failed to wakeup the MAC Chip" message.
I discovered that I had the proprietary Atheros driver enabled in
Hardware Drivers. I saw from the log that its ath_pci was starting
before ath5k. When I disabled the proprietary driver in System->Hardw

disabling the proprietary driver.

I tried it with Hardy alpha 6, and then updated hardy with the updates
available today (3/18/2008).
It still doesn't work, I'm afraid. In fact, it no longer beeps either (using
gnome beep).
I believe I'm doing what I did under Gutsy to produce the problem
originally.

I tried this with Hardy alpha 6. While the problem isn't fixed
(displayconfig-gtk still messes
up xorg.config, which stops xgl and compiz from working) the problem is less
severe. The
xserver does start now, despite the absence of the option mentioned above.

install CD. I can free up the system by unmounting all (or some) of the
partitions left mounted by os-prober and migration-assistant. When I run

The bug still exists in 2.6.32 (with Lucid) and should be fixed in
2.6.33 for the HVR-950Q I have (usbid 2040:7200). (I tested 2.6.33-rc6
under Lucid and the problem is gone there for my device). The kernel

That makes a lot of sense for the case that I described above. I removed
plymouth and plymouth-x11 and booted 30 times without it happening
again. Booting with radeon.modeset=0 and my custom kernel, both very
problematic in the past, worked fine as well.
