I have two PC with 8.04 Ubuntu and neither will mount the floppy drives
and the floppy drive activity light stays on the whole time. I have
tried different ribbon cables, change the hookup for different ways,
even got the floppy manufacturer to replace the new drive. On the new PC

Additional: the computer is an Acer Aspire ONE with 1.5 GB RAM, 120 GB
HD, bilingual keyboard (yuk). The computer came with Limpus Lite, which
was not what I likes so I went to Ubuntu 8.10, and later upgraded to
9.04. Until this problem (bug), 9.04 has been the best version yet.

I cannot complete the upgrad as I keep getting a "broken" package notice

Finally, everything loaded and what did the trick is that a new version
of Firefox was loaded in. Firefox 3.0.10. Originally the upgrade was
loading 3.0.9 which was broken or broken in my machine.

for awhile (minutes). The applications disappeared when I was trying to
use the Menu application. Now it will not lanch and I have no

This problem has a solution: see the post by C-quel above. Those
options will work. I used OPTION 1 and my system is good to go now.
Just as he reports, both media card readers will read media cards
inserted after boot.
I now can report 100% complete operation on my Acer Aspire ONE.

My Acer ONE will not read media cards either. If I reboot to the
earlier edition they will work. Neither of the card readers will work
with the latest Jaunty 9.04 (2009-04-23) I assume that I now have the
regular Jaunty as I unpgraded from the Beta this morning.

running Jaunty that the sound works fine on it. It is not an Intel
system. It is an AMD CPU, on an ASUS MoBo. I do not know what the

Mine cleared up after shutting down and rebooting. The event has not
reoccurred since.
Maybe your problem will be solved by a shutdown and reboot. By the way
I shut down for the night and rebooted in the morning, which put 10

My Acer Travelmate also does not "wake" from Suspend. I am using Ubuntu 8.10

I marked 2.6.27.11 for re-installation and then applied. I then
rebooted and it booted into 2.6.27.11. So the re-install worked.

One squashed bug! In Synaptic, I marked the kernel 2.6.27.11 for
"re-installation" and then clicked "Apply".
I then re-booted my computer and it booted into 2.6.27.11 just as it
should without any incident.
Thanks for the suggestion, it was right-on as a a solution to fix my

I have this problem with my laptop, but it is intermittent, most of the
time it will shut down ok by occassionally it will not completely
shutdown, it is as if the CPU is shut down but the screen backlight
stays on along with the wifi LED.

This netbook is using Intel sound chips. My desktop with Jaunty has
good sound, but it is using AMD.
I have checked all the sound channels. Can not get the test tone to
work using Auto or ALSA, but do get a test tone on OSS.

I get radio sounds.

Then down load to your desktop the patch.

Updated BIOS (to ver0.3310) did NOT correct problem. But I did learn

drive is present. Also my OS has loaded the floppy kernel on my desktop
(the computer with a floppy drive), The same OS has not loaded the

I have the same problem with GB English spelling being correct and I
want US-Englsih spelling to be correct. This is annoying and needs to
be corrected. It has persisted across several versions of Firefox. I
am using Version 7.0 now.

Using 12.04, last kernel upgrade (Linux 3.2.0.29) neither Ubuntu
Software Center nor Synaptic Package Manager will not load. They bot
will load on screan until the end and then just disapear. I have no
idea why they willnot load. Worked with 3.2.0.27 does not work now.

1. cursor is freezing up 2. When clicking on the Firefox panel icon or
the Thunderbird icon both try to open then shut down 3. some times
screen will paint garbage with broken lines and zig zag lines. I
