I have investigated this problem and found that the bug is in the
tooltip code in gtk. When compiz switches workspace it performs a
pointer grab and gtk tooltips don't handle this correctly. The following
sequence of events will trigger the bug:
1) While a tooltip is displayed another program perf

Lucid Beta 1 on Asus EEE PC 901 Fails
I tried manually with iwconfig and dhclient to rule out NetworkManager,
and confirmed it still happens. It seems setting the ESSID does not work
correctly, only succeeding around one out of 5-10 times.

Got the same "crash" now when opening softwarecentral.
I think i just started it and moved the mouse over the screenshot of a program
(didn't click).
Software central is still going but something crashed as I got the crash-icon
appear next to the clock.

Yes, this package is utterly broken. (I think it is because of a version
incompatibility with libgraphite3.) Please, can someone either fix it,
or remove it. It's dangerous as it is: if someone installs it and then
restarts the system, Gnome will not even start.

I just got hit by the same bug myself, so I wrote a python script to
save backup of files.
It will save files as "filename.txt.unsaved" in the same folder as
filename.txt or as "2010-06-05_02:53:40.Unsaved Document 1.unsaved.txt"
in home.

Daniel, "Open your terminal and xyz..." is in most cases a workaround,
not a solution.
A solution would most often involve installing upgraded packages, just
as you say.
I don't think you're in disagreement with any of the previous posters.

Volume is really low on the Karmic live CD.
Installing gnome-alsa-mixer and turning up "Master F" works around this
problem.
I already filed this in bug 430937, but was requested to file this bug
as well.
