I have just changed over from Fedora Core x to Ubuntu (9.10). I have a couple of
legacy apps which run best in kterms, so I installed kterm (apt-get). I was very
disappointed to find that the kterm provided does not support JIS X 0212
characters.

My wifi card is a Realtek RTL8723BE, and that seems to be a common
feature in the problem.
I added a /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf file containing

The problem seems to have been solved in 15.10. Not all is totally
correct with the WiFi, but this disconnect problem has now gone away.
