I was using the rt-kernel, yet today's update (October 16, 2009)
installed a generic kernel, which does not work:
udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured.
Svgalib: cannot open /dev/mem.
Gave up waiting for root device.

Yes, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic seems to be affected as well: a crash
report appears and says "..system might become unstable now and might
need to be restarted."
