This would only solve the problem for firewire drives(?) or at lest just
Western digital. Also as mentioned APM is not the only issue .. just one of
many. I would suggest not running hdparm at all for firewire drives & usb
drives .. as my patch to udev does this ensures full compati

Not sure if you saw the duplicate bugs to this bug. But also Black Berry
phones & other USB drives are effected by hdparm. Users have reported the work
around I gave fixed it for them. These seem unrealated to APM.

It most likely is, though have to wait till the bios update comes
around to verify. We actually did not look into the usb issue, but my bet is
based on what I've learned. The updated bios fixes this issue also.
Unmarking the kernel task as critical based on feedbac
Confirmed ALSA 1.0.23 does fix this issue. I am pushing to try and get
this into alsa-backports package in 10.04. Though will also post a dkms

these machines they do not get the grand Ubuntu enablement treatment

I've created a solution to get users working. I've updated the Intel hda
alsa driver with conexant codec updates in latest alsa 1.0.23 tree. This
is a solution until updates for the alsa intel hda driver can land into
the 10.04 kernel tree.
You'll need to install dkms before hand:
sudo apt-get ins
Also to add this solution does not conflict with thinkpad-acpi.

Since thinkpad-acpi now links to ALSA .. if a user uses alsa-backports &
it has alsa version 1.0.23 .. thinkpad-acpi module will break and not be able

First point is yes. Since thinkpad-acpi now links against alsa ..
you can't update lbm to 1.0.23 as it will look for symbols not there and
fail to load.
Your on track. Though that patch is actually built on another patch:

To keep things clear. What Lars is pointing out are builds of the
upstream tree. Not the official Ubuntu kernel tree.

Binary package hint: bluez
bluez bluetooth stack uses the uinput kernel module for key presses from
bluetooth device. If the
module isn't loaded users loose out on some (cool) functionality with bluetooth
devices. This includes:
- Volume, Next/Previous track on blu

Can you install the deb attached .. make sure to uninstall the other
dkms deb from the other bug you had installed. Then reboot and let me know if
things work?

Can you file a seperate bug & also post "lspci -vvnn" output. There
most likely is a quirk need for your machine.
hda-conexant-update-dkms_2.6.32.21_all.deb wouldn't have support for your
machine. Post LP # here and will work on that bug.

Sorry wrong set of mind. The conexant update above shouldn't
be giving you this error .. as it does not replace any of the main alsa
components. You probably installed the new alsa 1.0.23 .. then things got
screwed up.
