The "grub options" are really just to pass parameters to the Linux kernel.

The purple and orange are nice colors for a theme but when you put
them on a gradient, they mix together. Purple+orange mixed gives you a
very unappetizing brownish color. If you could come up with a
Purple+orange+brown theme that worked, this would be okay. The gradient
however adds colors to

I'm having this issue too, with x86-64 Lucid.
I'm on a 1.83Ghz Core2 Duo with 1.5gigs of ram, 2 gigs of swap, and a
fast SATA hard drive.
This feels very much what would happen with an old computer when DMA was
disabled... but of course this is a SATA hard drive, and I don't know

This was an issue with earlier network-manager releases. Current
network-manager allows you to edit a wireless network, and check the
"availbale to all users" checkbox. If this is selected (on my lucid
system), any network, including the WiFi, comes up on boot, bofer login.
