I want to report that after the latest update, containing a new kernel,
3.13.0-36-generic, this problem seems to be fixed for me.
Thanks to who have found and applied this solution to this problem. My new
computer now works flawlessly with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS :), which is really great
Jaap
with Ubuntu 12.04.1 (Precise), this was quite OK (only no
sound, on this very new hardware)
Same with LiveDVD with Ubuntu 12.4.5 (Precise, the latest), this behaved same
as the 14.4.1 LiveDVD
So the bug entered somewher between Ubuntu 12.04.1 and 12.04.5
Hope this helps, adding 50% to the people
cessor, and is called
AMD/ATI: Richland [ Radeon HD 8570D]
This is an improvement, but it is still not how things should be, of
course, but might indicate where to seek.

@Robin: the report in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=863219 is not quite the same as the
original issue in this report, so will close this one, but feel free to open a
new one for tracking https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=863219
I have seen that one before in my own test
Code below can be added in "zim/gui/__init__.py" just below the call
"self.uimanager.ensure_update()" (around line 540) and will add a search
entry in the toolbar. In my mind this removes the need for adding search
to the side pane, but open to suggestions.
