I can't remove the application menu icon. For me, this is wasting space
in the panel since I don't want to use 2 panels because my screen isn't
high enough.
Maybe an option for removing the icon would help.

The /usr/share/fonts directory uses a lot of disk space.
All the fonts inside this directory are compressed by using gzip.
I think that using lzma would decrease the disk space used.
