The accordian effect is functionality designed precisely to accommodate
a longer list of launcher icons and I can't agree that its invocation in
the default install is a reason for concern.
Default apps and icons are under regular review and I recommend that we
include the feedback in this bug in

I have spoken to Daniel about providing you with mockups that don't use
this space. In the absence of useful messaging and because we should be
promoting features in context and not by using crude banners I think
this bug should be closed as 'Won't fix'.

I propose that this be marked as won't fix.
In the next release we should re-examine what the toolbar area is used
for also, once one starts exploring this particular problem there are
actually a few different layers to it. For example, in *My Folder* there
is space that is indeed available to me

I often can't open pdfs with evince.
I often can't open certain pdfs with evince.
Evince gives the error: Unrecognised image file format.
xpdf opens the pdf without any problems. I will attach an example pdf.

Running clean install for today.
Trying to use the software centre to install packages that I want, like
