Well the in-kernel driver _is_ the rt2x00 driver.
But I assume you mean the deprecated legacy drivers instead,
those drivers have been removed from the rt2x00 project.

The error message:

I would recommend upgrading to a more recent version.

If lshw indicates the device is a 11Mbs device, than it is _not_ a rt2500
device.
What does lspci indicate?

lshw reports your device is 11Mbs, rt2500 devices are 54Mbs.
Furthermore, the reason why the driver isn't working is because even lspci
cannot detect your card.
I don't know why lshw does report the card, but lspci doesn't, but the only
thing I can conclude from this, is that the driver

What might be interesting is the wireless-compat package on linuxwireless.org.
They provide the latest mac80211 versions including all mac80211 drivers for
"older" kernels.
Unfortunately the patch that fixed above problems was not a single
patch, in fact it were about 80 patches that fixed most i

That bug is caused because register_qdisc() fails in mac80211.
And that seems to only be possible when the same Qdisc_ops is registered twice.
In the package I see you create a rt2x_mac80211 module, but that is not
needed when you use the linux-wireless package you can simply use that

Taleman: Are you sure the right module is loaded?
Your device has a USB ID which is known to be abused by hardware manufacturers
to be either rt2500usb or rt73usb.
If rt2500usb fails, try to blacklist it to give rt73usb a chance of recognizing
it.

All legacy drivers have received SMP fixes, and should now all work on
SMP systems.
More and more manpower is being given to the legacy driver, so at the moment
those are in better shape then rt2x00.
I hope this will be resolved in the future, but for the moment the legacy

There seems to be an infinite amount of trust in the so-called

If you would take a look at the publicly available sheets for rt61 and

notice that there isn't that much useful in there to resolve
throughput issues as
