Will do. Never tried to build the mainline kernel with the cross
compiler, though. It'd be great if you add arm64 as part of the mainline
builds in the future.

Thank you Tim, I actually downloaded the linux-image package deb file,
linux-image-generic_3.13.0.8.12_arm64.deb from the launch pad and rolled
the image. I don't see the message.

I have successfully installed Quantal on to a highbank qemu machine using one
of the recent initrds. For the qemu machine, I had to use my own kernel that
has ext2 built-in from upstream with my own config.
Here's the command I used for the installation:
$ sudo ~/workdir/qemu-linaro-1.1.50-2012
@MMorana, I was using my own config which worked for my qemu setup, not
the quantal config you guys have been validating.
@Ike Panhc, the calxeda vmlinz which I assume is built without earlyprintk
enabled, stops right after the message "Staring kernel"

@mahmoh on qemu virtual machin, I tried your vmlinuz and initrd, but it

The upstream kernel launches the install process, but again mounting a

Thank you @dannf. One of the recent Linaro u-boot releases, 2012.05
worked fine, now I can get to the prompt.
% sudo qemu-system-arm -M highbank -m 1024 -kernel ~/projects/boot/u

If someone already has the qemu image, I wonder if we can share it.

Hi Michael,
Would you post the working images somewhere so I can test them with the latest

Hi Michael,
Using the upstream kernel initiated the installation process with the recent
initrd.img posted at the Ubuntu site.
I am failing at the partitioning stage, I am looking into it.
Thanks for the bootargs suggestion, that was so useful.

Dann, thanks for the pointers. I'd prefer to test the highbank kernel locally
on my PC. That precise ARM
disk image seems to be for the omap flavor. Any plans to add the highbank
flavor there as well?
As you suggested I'll send my questions to the ubuntu-server list.
