When Intrepid came out i updated the system, but when booting the new
kernel, it was stopping at a point. I checked recovery mode and saw a
lot of text(something about modprobe exit-ed). I tried the old kernel
and it was working. I'm using it since. I tried to find a solution,

I've tried to install Ubuntu 8.10 (and Kiwi 8.12, Ubuntu with Hungarian
language pack) but the install stops at a point, and sais :
"The following file did not match its source copy on the CD/DVD..."
It always prompts with a different file.

It is not the same. Here the partitioning is done, and when the
installer copies files than it starts to make errors. Trying to make an
attempt with gksudo ubiquity --debug.

I pulled out the nvidia card, and now with the integrated intel it
works. Strange. Can this be fixed?

Here is a new syslog. Maybe it helps. I find strange the following lines:

Tried it with 2 cd-s, several iso-s, checked md5sum several times, nothing. It
seems fine. I check it more, but i dont think its a faulty iso/cd problem.
Tried Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop, 8.10 alternate, Kiwi 8.12, on hardware, in

I'm in the same boat. Asus F5N-158, shutdown worked with 8.10 after one
tweak, but restart is stopping at the end. Only the shutdown button
helps. I will try the Jaunty kernel today. If not, is there a
workaround?

I found a solution for these issues.
Solve the poweroff problem:
edit /etc/modules
add this line:
power_off=1
To solve the reboot issue:
add to the kernel parameters: all_generic_id
You can turn off the leds with:
sudo echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/[bluetooth, wlan,...]
