This is because totem-xine conflicts totem-gstreamer, so it tries to

There used to be a bug about this - it's upstream, and it dealt with the
way msn handles connections, if i recall correctly. I might try to find
that later, and see what the solution was.
I dont seem to see this in kopete 0.12 versionsdid it go away, or
have I learned to ignore it?

This is just a wild guess, but do the links to the pages you were
clicking on have very long bits of text? (ie, very wide horizontally)?
Also, do you have a nVidia video card.
