I solved the issue some time ago but I hadn't got the chance to put some
feedback
The issue got solved when I removed the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
file generated by alsa-base (which I'm attaching here).
Indeed what I did was to purge (un-install) the alsa-base package as

The server starts but I get a bunch of problems (ie bug #322964)

I've fixed this issue. The hook appends a pluginreg.dat file for each
