For what it is worth I like to add that I was stuck with the same problems as
described above on a MSI K9A Platinum mobo (Gutsy and Hardy).
A BIOS upgrade (from 1.5 to 1.8) solved all my problems entirely!

Unfortunately still unable to make NX server work with kde in 12.04 :-(
I have tired the libxrandr2 packages from Ringtale without success.
What would probably work is to find the correct spot for adding:
-extension XFIXES
to nx scripts since X2go works quite well.
Has anyone been able to succe
FreeNX in kubuntu 12.10 is also not possible - same symptoms...
also
'-extension XFIXES 'does definitively not fix it for NX in 12.04
This is all very sad.

I can now confirm that reverting to the old NFS v3 on the client
resolves the freezing issues.
Still this does not allow us to upgrade 10.04 to 12.04 since in practice
v4 is needed.
I sure hope we receive some attention to this bug. NFS is a cornerstone in
Linux/UNIX and
has been for ages.

I have also found the infromation that NFSV3 does work.
However I do not really like the word "fixed".
We have been using V4 since around 2009 (with 8.04 and 10.04) for a reason.
NFS3 does not allow for an elaborate use of groups, and does not support acls

I can also confirm the substantial extra waiting time when bootwait is added -

Also anyone, that likes to go the nfs v3 way, may save some time not making my

In /etc/fstab an nfs3 mount needs the '/export' prefix on the mounts

Hi,
I can also verify that the nomachine "free" NX server is not crashing
KDE with the proposed repo enabled in 12.04.
Unfortunately the FreeNX server from the ppa:freenx-team/ppa does not.

Unfortunately I had no success with free NX using Reinhards suggestions.
I tried to add "-extension XFIXES" to nxloadconfig like this:
AGENT_EXTRA_OPTIONS_X="-extension XFIXES -nolisten tcp -dpi 96"
(Ubuntu 2d works though... i.e. only KDE crashes.)

We have also noticed that for some hosts, more often with multiple cpu
cores in our experience, NFS shares are not mounted in time during
upstart.
We have tried NFS v3 and v4 with Ubuntu 8.04 servers and Ubuntu 10.04
clients.
If /home is an NFS share this will

Thanks MxxCon - your suggestion would have been much simpler.
Unfortunately it did not work for us.
We are not experiencing this problem so often on servers, only on
clients (about 9 out of 12 client boxes).
On servers we use static IP:s on clients we use DHCP.
