I can confirm Magnentius's comment (#13). Recently, I have written some
scripts which need Ubuntu's beeping feature. Neither Ubuntu's beep
package nor Perl's Audio::Beep works. The workaround from Henri's
comment (#5) did not work. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04

Actually I don't think it's really a problem but a behaviour of GNOME.
To use the right keyboard shortcut in some applications (gnome-terminal,
wine, ...) which are related to gnome-setting-daemon, just make sure
that *that keyboard layout is the first one* in gnome-keyboard-
properties. I'm a Pro

(ibus-unikey) unusable. I have asked him on the iBus user mailing list
several times but somehow my post were never moderated. Disappointed...

I had the exactly same problem after I uninstalled ufw with aptitude.
The puring method of Jamie (comment #3) does work well. No more ufw
error when booting.
