A lot of people are custom with tweaking the configrations in /etc/default and

I have since over 10 years an /etc/crontab adjusted to run

The node name is not determined correctly if /bin/sh is linked to dash.
This problem occurs in current karmic as in the debian sid version (I installed
manually).
As a side effect /etc/init.d/ejabberd reports a failed start.

I'm not using syslog-ng.
The problem occurs also under karmic with rsyslogd on a netbook.

After some time the /dev/null device is moved to /dev/null.1 and a new **file**
is created for /dev/null.
