For what it's worth, I had the exact same problem and creating
/etc/network/run/ifstate (and so the /etc/network/run/ directory)
"fixed" it.

gnome-power-manager window to be displayed (it's quite hard to select
restart/suspend & al, since you have to do it "blindly")

Bumping this one, my tablet wouldn't work with Hardy with the 0.7.7 driver
since there are problems with Xorg 7.3. Upgrading to 0.7.9-2 fixed it (I
basically just bumped the changelog and threw the newest linuxwacom tarball
contents in the current debian package, rebuilt it, and it worked).
