I have the same problem but uninstall, reinstall and reboot did not
resolve the problem.
Ubuntu 10.04
VirtualBox version : 3.1.6_OSE r59338
$ uname -r
2.6.32-24-generic
$ ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic/updates/dkms/
total 488
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 213764 2010-09-22 08:44 vboxdrv.ko
-rw-r--
I retry with :
$ sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*
$ sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose
and it did the trick.
