This doesn't sound too much like an indicator application bug, can you
add the log out applet to your panel and try switching users with that?
right click the gnome panel -> add to panel -> log out. you should be
able to click it and get the option of switching u

Right you can't remove all of those, i did test by removing those from
the launcher codebase and it didn't seem to get tripped up, I'm going to
set this to invalid for now as i'm wrapping up my bugs for RC, please

Took a look, turns out bamf is not giving us the right desktop file for
synaptic, its giving us synaptic-kde.desktop instead of synaptic.desktop
- which means its trying to launch without root. so i'm assigning this
one over to jason + bamf
