When the computer is left alone and the system gets locked for access by
passers-by, the screen is black (as expected) but then fan activity is
increasing to a level that I hardly know during regular activities.
After logging in and resuming user activity fan activity drops.

The fan does not start right after locking begins.
When I log in again, one of the processors has been running until that
moment at 100%
When I switch the monitor tab to see the tasks, compiz is at 84% but I
am not sure if that is the culprit.
I don't know if the problem depends on an applicatio
On top with 100% CPU usage is compiz
The active drivers are: ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver
gnome-screensaver installed, not configurated

I never bothered about a screensaver. So I don't know how to change preferences.
2 things to be noticed:
/usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-preferences is not found on this system.
'System Settings' in the menu bar does not activate anything visible.

The icon had been visible, but after some hassling with 3d-drivers etc
it is not showing anymore, neither in dash nor in the unity launcher bar
even with this line in spyder.desktop:

in dash, 2 spyders without icon are showing up, spyder and S

the 2 entries for spyder are in thee Applications area
the capitalized Spyder does not launch anything

Problem of #8 solved.
There was another spyder.desktop (and a Spyder.desktop) in
~/.local/share/applications without the Icon= line.
Maybe put in that folder by ubuntu-tweak, there is a line in these files:
X-Ubuntu-Tweak=true
