problems. The new kernel update is just a repack of the former kernel
released a few days ago - I think someone forgot to flag the kernel as a
"security"-update.

OK, I finally managed to get the patched kernel to compile in my PPA, so
if you are brave enough you may try it. You know the usual disclaimers:
it works for me but may blow up your computer. Here are the apt source

Jos and Christian, I think this is a new bug. The symptoms are the same
with kacpid or kacpi_notify consuming all CPU but it appears after
resuming from suspend (to ram or disk) and not while running the system.
It is also interesting that at all three of us have Dell laptops. I

I can confirm this behavior, I also have an ATI graphics controller:
ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]
and have not been able to run any graphic intense java applications in Ubuntu
8.04.
The good news is that java graphics in Intrepid Beta works fine for me,
so I will just stick
Well, maybe I was too quick to say that it works "fine" in Intrepid. I
still cannot get java to use the OpenGL-pipeline, but at least
performance is much better. The example Lucas provided actually looks
smooth in Intrepid Beta, but draws quite a lot of CPU. Far from perfect,

Before, the error message was just an annoyance, but now it apparently
kills compiz and leaves you with a very ugly looking desktop. Combined
with other bugs for nVida in a dual monitor setup, Oneiric is just about

Just upgraded and after a reboot got this crash. This is with gnome-
settings-daemon 3.2.0-0ubuntu3.

gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SI
Thanks for clearing this up! In my case the motd.tail on one of our
servers contained the line "*** System restart required ***" which has
probably made me restart that poor thing every time I logged on - for no
reason...
