Since you need a special permission to mount devices (you get asked for
that the first time you try to mount sth and have to give a password to
sudo or get root). These mounted devices should be mounted with

Yes, Jaunty works great and hotplugging is back. I can recommend
everybody with this issue to upgrade. A word of advice is to stay away
from ext4 for now, though.
For those of you who wish not to upgrade, I unfortunately managed to
break my build system and can no longer provide up-to-date kernels

It seems that installing the linux-backports-modules-jaunty packaged
fixed the problem for me; the connection on multiple APs is now rock

I can confirm that removing all compiz packages does work around this
problem now. I don't even need to explicitly specify the "intel"
driver. It didn't help when I first found the problem over a month ago,
but now it works.
Still, I would prefer compiz and the video rendering is not as fast as

This seems to be still happening with the latest Intrepid beta. I
believe that a program that starts during login crashes. I have yet to
determine which program and why it is crashing. This happens when
logging in through gdm as well as when starting X manually (startx).

I believe I am having a similar issue. Xorg crashes when I attempt to
log in with the same error in the Xorg log. Here are the details about

I am having a similar problem. After upgrading, xorg crashes during
login. I get to the gdm login screen, but after entering my user name
and password, it crashes. The error in /var/log messages is Xorg[6907]:
segfault at 0 ip b7b00dc1 sp bf821af0 error 4 in
libdri.so[b7afd000+8000] .

Confirmed. Crashed in Intrepid Beta as well. I used swedish characters
when I entered the "Location" field of my HP-printer setup. Maybe that
is what triggered it?

If you place fast-user-switch-applet next to the clock, you'll notice
that the username text is one pixel higher than the clock text.
This bug is pretty noticeable - especially on smaller screens. Would
love to see this dealt with before Intrepid, since the default panel
