Instead of using the reset button, I do this:
Alt+PrntScr+r, Alt+Prn
How is it going with this?
I have the same issues with my new DELL E6320.
I am able to test easier things if I get detailed instructions.

Disregard my last comment. I just found out that the problems are gone in Linux
Mint 12.
In Linux Mint 12 the touchpad works as designed, and I am able to change the
speed and other settings of the cursor.
