I recompiled libapt-pkg-libc6.10-6.so.4.8.0 with your patch and solved this bug.
Copy the attached library to /usr/lib/libapt-pkg-libc6.10-6.so.4.8.0 to solve
the problem while an updated apt package arrive.
I tried to make the deb but I failed becaus "make install" don't work.

We have this problem for a long, long time now. I supposed a hardware fault but
changed motherboard, graphics card, memtest my ram, etc. I send this bug report
because I think that is a kernel/software problem.
This must take in caution but I believe that I had this problem since 14.04. By

related because in first place the bug only freezes video. I can enter

We removed all non main ubuntu repositories from sources.list and updated apt,
then removed packages not in repositories with the list that we get from:
apt-show-versions | grep 'No available'
Without rebooting, we do a 'do-release-upgrade -d' and it worked
perfectly... so, our problem was a mix
I think we resolved this issue.
We had this problem every day in some boxes after update from precise to
trusty. When we tried to update wine, we can't because synaptic found broken
packages. The history was that solving wine problem we solved this too.
