I noticed this too. Turns out it's not an issue with vmbuilder but
rather with how the virtual kernel is now packaged. The -virtual kernel
is virtually the same as the -server kernel so Ubuntu stopped building a
separate -virtual kernel. See bug #307924, comment #5 for details.

I tried out the 1052 proposed kernel on a C5 instance that runs
sssd/apparmor and it did not lock up.

sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5
Seeing this as well. The system runs freeipa-client/sssd. If I remove
sssd from the bootstrap the node does not lock up. I captured an strace
showing the sssd startup is the last thing that happens before the 100%
CPU and lock up.

I can also confirm that ifenslave-2.6 1.1.0-15ubuntu2 from Maverick
corrects this issue with bonding and bridging. I no longer have dropped
arp replies and "received packet with own address as source address"
messages.

I can confirm that the openldap package from ppa:ssalley fixes likewise
on maverick. Looks like the other openldap update is almost in -updates.
Hopefully we can get this one in there ASAP.
