some searching found out it can be done by booting in to the ubuntu
installation shell, then press F6 -> Other Options and enter:
netcfg/disable_dhcp=true
After that the installation will ask for ip, netmask, gateway etc.

On Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS, I have an LVM + RAID 5 setup.
I installed evms. This causes the /dev directory to work differently --
in my case, /dev/sda1 is NO LONGER a valid device node; now
/dev/evms/sda1 is the true boot node. This breaks booting! (This also

Under Slackware, Xorg 6.9 didn't have such a bad memory use. Going to
5.10 Ubuntu, Xorg 6.8's listed memory went up (and my computer touched
swap a lot more). Dapper's Xorf 7.00 fixed this some, but a recent
upgrade to a Xinerama setup has made the situation a whole lot worse.

far, my system has not touched swap. Xorg is running a nice, lean 782m

However, the resolution is totally screwed. If anyone could offer some
direction or an xconf, that'd be great.

disk to get Ubuntu to install properly, then manually set up Yaboot
after installing OS X.

I also encounter frequent network buffer loss in Totem. There are some
interesting numbers to be found with the system monitor's Network graph.
If I pause playback (so that the buffer can catch up!), download appears

My wireless adapter is connecting smoothly after suspend. I did notice that
NetworkManager took a bit longer than usual to detect my network and connect to
it, but everything is as before for me except for the very visible absense of a

The version of linux-modules from intrepid-proposed seems to have
resolved the issue for me (no issues after a day of use) and has not
caused any further regressions. Turns out this bug also caused most of
my other problems, such as with sleep and hibernate, and it being fixed
has greatly improved
