No problem accessing OOo text documents on a different SAMBA server (no calc documents there) so it really does seem to be a Calc-Samba issue. The original SAMBA server was quite badly bogged down in that other processes (eg Adobe-PDF accesses) were slow but all seems to be working OK now. Final t
