I've tried, but the proprietary nvidia driver can't enable the second
GPU if the first (the integrated Intel) is already working, so I'm left
with only one monitor and this glitch disappear (as it disappers if I
disable the intel GPU and use only the nvidia one with the nouveou
driver).

nvidia blob can't work with an open source driver in a dual gpu
configuration.. right?

the one attached to VGA.

I connected the second monitor using the spare digital output and the
problem never ever reappeared, so I really think that the bug affected
the vga output. I don't have access to that computer anymore so I can't
test it further, sorry

Same here, ubuntu Maverick, master level have no effect but muting. The
strange thing is that the only thing master level control is some
background noise, other that this is useless
