SPI flash) can discover and use extlinux/extlinux.conf config file to
render a boot menu and give users interactive choice of kernels to boot.

This bug was specifically about the Ubuntu Desktop Installer, and the
experience one has with it.
Are you experiencing something similar, on the installed system, after
the installation is done and you use Ubuntu normally? In that case
that's a separate issue. Please open a new b
cloud-init no longer runs, unless ds-identify can identify the platform
that this machine is supposed to be configured as.
Thus by default, simply installing cloud-init will be inert.
What data sources are you expecting to use, and have you manually

The systemd package you downloaded is more than 2 years old, for xenial.
The latest xenial release of systemd is 229-4ubuntu21.2, which you can download
from xenial-updates using e.g.
$ pull-lp-source systemd xenial

When you mention that the issue does not exist with Ubuntu Server ->
what do you mean? self-installed ubuntu server? or a VMware specific
cloud image? What is the output of ds-identify there? contents of
/etc/cloud?

I did a rebuild of it. It is "successful" but, it does smell very
fishy... given the number of times it tries to use -mtune options for
like arm or sparc.

fchownat() was added to Linux in kernel 2.6.16, which is prior to 2.6.32
and is a kernel version one of the affected users is reporting. Thus it
seems as if, the fchownat() is somehow otherwise broken.
