Many users around the are having problems with network manager, especially for
USB 3G modems.
We are able to connect using wvdial and gnome-ppp since its dial-up support is
much better than the network manager.
It is in good interest of everyone to integrate these two packages and make

This bug shall be upgraded from its "wishlist" status. It is causing serius
problems to many users crippling usability.
Just take a poll around to see how many users are relying on gnome-ppp and
wvdial to connect their 3G modems and you will know the seriousness. If the

A solution to this "wish" will resolve millions of issues related to 3G modems
not working in network manager but working in wvdial.

am able to connect the internet using gnome-ppp and
wvdial but the NetworkManager applet says I am offline! So all
applications know I am offline and I cant send/recieve mails or chat.
I am available for any data required or any other help from my side...

My modem was reportedly working fine till Jaunty. The problem is there
since Karmik {point to be noted: since karmic NM does not handle modems
on its own, but uses modem-manager}. I am presently using Lucid. I have
