Yep, happened to me as well after running a partial upgrade for Trusty.
The software updater gives me the message, the Dash is slow and I'm
unable to shutdown or reboot without using the terminal .

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.10. I have tried 2 fresh installs
and both the exact same issue. Copying about 45gig of music around
11,000 files the copy freezes anywhere from 200 to 600 meg. I thought I
would try Ubuntu 13.04 just to see... and it's plagued with the same
