I have a LJ1320 I use regularly, but I use the LJ1320 hpijs ppd instead
of the postscript ppd. Ths postscript ppd does fail.

Bugs,
I don't want to make changes to hpijs.drv that only work on CUPS 1.4.
This would be problematic supporting older distros.
There are two possible options for CustomPageSize attribute.
1. *CustomPageSize True: "pop pop pop pop pop FoomaticRIPOptionSetting:
PageSize=Custom"
2. *CustomPageSize True:
I want to verify our custom page size solution. I will add option #2 to
the hpijs.drv. I have attached test2.drv which is an example of the fix.
This example works with the foomatic-rip 3.x version we distribute with
hplip. WDYT?

We have no plans for converting our Postscript Level 3 PPDs to Level 2. These
are valid Postscript PPDs from the Mac driver. We view this as a Poppler issue.
I would rely on you work-around for now.

This hpijs.drv patch adds the following:
1. A3 to all deskjets that support SuperB.
2. Overall DefaultResolution 300dpi hint for up-stream applications.

I'm not sure the problem is solved with the above update. Now there are
two "CustomPageSize True" attributes in the PPD. See the attached
test.drv.
Run
ppdc test.drv
Then look at the PPD file result.

Just a comment for Martin :)
The default hplip 2.7.9 tarball install sets the device node to "world-
writeable" only as a convenience to the user. We fully expect the down-
stream package maintainer or admin to change this user policy to any
other convention. Such as "scanner" or "lp" group member

/dev/bus/usb/xxx/xxx permissions are not set correctly.
The udev 55-hpmud.rules file from 2.7.9 should fix this issue.

I have attached a copy of the new 55-hpmud.rules file. The new rules
file is product-id specific where the old one was not. It also sets the
device node permissions to 0666. See the

Sorry, HPLIP uses libusb/usbfs instead of usblp. Libusb uses the
"/dev/bus/usb/xxx/xxx" device node instead of the "/dev/usblp0" device
node.
Since usblp and libusb cannot claim the the same usb device, any HPLIP
device I/O usage (ie: scanning, printing or faxing) will remove usblp
from the "/dev/
Although this is a low priority patch here it is. This patch will be in

The hplip-2.8.2_dj895_powerup.patch will send a power up command if the
printer is powered off. Before this fix the user had to manually power
up the printer. The fix only applies to older printers like
Ok I looked at a Hardy system.
You need to update your version of 55-hpmud.rules file with the latest
the 55-hpmud.rules in the hplip 2.7.12 tar ball. I know Ubuntu uses a

You do not need explicit usb-pids for HP printer products. You can
determine if the udev event is a HP printer product by performing a
wild-card compare on the idProduct. See 55-hpmud.rules file.

The "hp" backend creats no .hplip directory.
Something (hal_lpadmin?) must be calling a hp-xxx command which probably
creates the .hplip directory at cups restart.
The commands hp-makeuri and hp-info are intended to be run by users
only. I would try to use the hp-mkuri command for system s
