the problem still exists. For instance, when bullets/numbering tool bar
is in floating mode, then switching Bullets On causes the OpenOffice
window to disappear. However, the solution I've found is to make the
tool-bar non-floating.
BTW, the problem only seems to exist when the Visual Effect

symptoms are the same. I tried with different xorg.conf files (let the
nvidia-settings to generate one and with my backup files and nothing.)

I can confirm as well, that enabling bluetooth and btusb modules in my
T61 does not help to prevent the hangups and sudden log writing
activity. So I installed the patch Tom provided and I'll keep posted
about any irregular HD/CPU activity.
