Thanks for the updates. It's been at least 8 months since I looked at this
but I guess it is still not fixed. I had to drop Ubuntu since this bug
meant it failed (miserably) my company's security criteria.

I haven't noticed this for a long time. I actually forgot I ever filed
this bug. Either its fixed now or it was because when I filed this bug I
was running it in Virtualbox and the whole system was running very
slowly (I now have it installed directly and the performance is fine).

When I log in there is no desktop background, just black and moving
windows across the desktop cause graphical glitches. A work around is to
toggle the dconf key 'org.gnome.desktop.background.show-desktop-icons'
twice but this only fixes it for the current session.

Starting nautilus from the launcher opens the home folder in nautilus
but doesn't draw the background.

I can confirm this is still a problem with Unity 3.8.10-0ubuntu2. I
have attached a video to show the problem. If I just press enter after
typing part of the name there is a noticeable pause.

editors (openshot, kdenlive, avidemux ...). I've had to convert the
videos first using `mencoder out.ogv -o out.avi -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc`.

I can confirm this bug for Banshee 1.8.0-2ubuntu1~maverick1. I rip my
CDs as FLAC. The tracks are reported twice in the library but are only
ripped to disk once. This occurs even after the CD is removed - at first
