This is done in an ugly way. I just booted 8.04 alpha 5 and I thought it is a bug. Becasue first the boot menu appears, then a second later the language menu. Looks like if it detects a spurious press of the F4 (or which one is it for the lang) key. I realise it is too late for any changes in 8.

I tried 8.04 alpha3 and it appears to works correctly. But previously I noticed that is sometimes works, sometimes not. This is really not hard to test, so please ... (you just have to select any timezone and check that the time displayed matches the BIOS clock, which also matches the real clock)
