Just to confirm that the Lucid daily-build from 09-Dec-2009 is not
restarting my desktop with integrated HD3200 any more. I am able to run
the Try Ubuntu mode now on the desktop, without modifying or changing
anything in the menu options. Good work.

I apologize if it's too early in the development process but just to report
that I tried a daily-build of Lucid from cdimage.ubuntu.com and it does the
same thing as Karmic with my integrated HD3200. Just before showing the desktop

I can confirm this is working with Tenda W311U 150Mb usb adapter. The chip
reported by lsusb is actually 148F:3070 which would mean Ralink RT3070 but
since I had no patch for RT3070 driver I decided to use 2009_0820_RT2870 driver
and the patch supplied by Bryan.
I blacklisted rt2800usb and also
It's very easy to see the impact. Anyone interested needs only to visit the
forum website, and search for threads "Ubuntu upgrade destroyed my windows".
Yes, that's the publicity that ubuntu is getting. That it's destroying windows.
If that's fine for the ubuntu team Erick, who am I to complain??
PS. By the way I am still trying to help the person in the mentioned above
thread to get XP working again. He thinks he lost XP completely together with
all of his important files. The first repair attempts were unsuccessful.
But I guess nobody cares about that too.

@Takkat
That´s exactly the point: making it better and trouble free for non-experienced
users. This is about making ubuntu easy to use and accepted by them.
If we start thinking that the user should know what is a disk, what a partition
and what to select, going by the same logic should we drop t
Let me add my humble opinion.
1. This confusing matter is definitely turning people away from ubuntu.
I also think the user should have some knowledge to make a difference
between a partition and a disk, or where grub2 is installed at all, but
we simply can not blame only the user. You simply can
Latest example:

The user did nothing wrong, but having wubi and grub2 overwriting his
/dev/sdc there was nothing to do. Sorry if this is not the proper place,
maybe this needs to be separate bug report for wubi.

Ubuntu Lucid grub2 dist-upgrades
Hi all.
I have problem with ACPI_PSS too. I have Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H with 780G.
I am first time Ubuntu user and waited for the 9.10 release. Downloaded
the images, burned the 64bit on CD and booted my PC. Selected the option
to Try Unbuntu first, the black screen with white logo works fine and

Sorry for the long post, I tried to explain everything that I tried. The
bottom line is I can't install 9.10 or 9.04 because of this bug right?
So I don't think the posting is wrong. Maybe just a bit long. :)

UPDATE 2: Sorry, I can't edit the last post and I just remembered
something else.
In my last try to run the 9.10 live environment I pressed TAB to edit
the command and at the end added "acpi=off noacpi". Didn't help.

UPDATE: I updated to the latest BIOS for my Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H ver1.0
but it didn't help. 9.10 live environments still reboots before the
desktop shows up.
Before the BIOS update I downloaded 8.04 LTS to see it will go. The live
environment runs fine, you can see the desktop and work in it. Haven
Hello. I have the same problem ACPI_PSS bug is not letting me run live
environment or installation of 9.10 or 9.04. I downloaded 8.04 LTS just
to test and that runs fine.
I'm new to both Ubuntu and bug reporting, should I just report here or
open new report with my motherboard model?
In case you
Update: Kubuntu 9.10 x64 can install and run successfully. This ACPI_PSS
error seem to be connected with BIOS which the Ubuntu team has no
control over, but it's not only that.
Why would Kubuntu install and run and Ubuntu not? Does this help isolate
the "problem"?

Update: SUCCESS!!! Woohooo, as a beginner in Ubuntu I am quite proud. :)
Here is my understanding of this topic (please take it with reserve, I
am only a beginner).
9.04 is generating the bug powernow-k8 acpi_pss and it clearly says so
because it kicks you into busybox and the bug report is on th
I resolved my problem with the rebooting.
@Aaron, I also have HD3200. If you still have the problem with Karmic
see my post in this bug report (not to write everything here again).
That resolved my problem. My post is towards the end, one of the latest
ones.

No problem, that is why I asked. I don't want to create multiple reports
for the same stuff. :)
Thanks. Cheers.
