Thanks for the tip Yuran, but it's not a valid final solution, just a
temporary workaround.
As said in the post, there is a problem with package dependencies, an
that's what must be fixed.
Cheers!

Also, if you copy your profile from another machine (in my case, I took
my profile from another computer with Ubuntu 12.04) and try to run it,
it seems to run properly, but just in console mode, no GUI in shown:

I also have this problem. About one week ago, contacts were listed

can't see any Google contact in Empathy.
I've alsa configured a People Nearby account, and I can see my co-

I don't think installing Telepathy is the way to solve the problem.
This bug has been detected and reported in LTS version, and since it has
been confirmed by many users (and seems to be a possible source for the
bug), it should be fixed in LTS version.

I've talked by email with an Empathy developer and he suggests this
error can be a bug in telepathy-gabble (v0.8.12 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS).
Could Ubuntu developers try to identify this bug?
Thanks

Hi,
This bug has been for several time in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS... and it hasn't
been solved. What happens with it? Should LTS user wait to the next
version have it fixed?
Please, if you can't fix it, contact with Paolo Bacchilega (File-

This bug has already reported in telepathy-gabble's bugzilla

WTF! I've opened Empathy and it shows all my Google talk's contacts, but
I've not updated empathy nor telepathy-gabble.
Could someone please confirm the bug has been already fixed? Maybe
Google's developers had the error on their side, and have fixed it.
Thanks!

It seems that this bug is still no valid, since Empathy is now listing
Google talk's contacts properly.
Maybe Google has changed something in their protocolo, so I'm closing
this bug.
Sorry for the incovenience.
