I have the same segmentation fault and runtime error like Chris.
The developert of Eric told me that the mixes of sip versions is not valid and
must be fixed. So the issue is somewhere between PyQT4 / Qsci .
By the way, you get the same report, when trying to install it manually:
# dpkg -l | g
@Darren Dale:
karmic currently not the right platform for production usage.
If you are really in the need of eric, try following workaround:
sudo apt-get remove eric eric-api-files libqscintilla2-5 python-
qscintilla2 python-qt4 python-sip4
Change the apt sources.list from karmic to jaunty

Binary package hint: xorg
When trying to install the current Beta of Ubuntu 9.10 (desktop-installation
image), there graphical issues with i.e. SIS 761GX onboard graphic-controllers.
These "could" be fixed when using the option "Safe Graphic mode" or even
better: xforceve

Some more details why it is important to allow forcing the usage of vesa
driver in xorg when installing Ubuntu-Desktop:
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E5600, using the infamous SIS761GX
graphic chipset. These PCs are current sold very cheap in thousands of
used auctions and 2nd hand computer st
Just a last hint: You can find similar problems with Notebook users who
have graphic issues at the xorg screen when installing via the desktop-
install-cd.
forcing the vesa driver could help them to get a least non-accelerated,
but fine working X11 server, which should help them to get through the
Short Update.
I had tested it with "xforcevesa" option and "Safe Graphicsmode" with
the released Version of Ubuntu 9.10.
It works like a charm now. Thank you very much.
Cheers,
Daniel

too old xorg server in 9.10 deskt
I figured out a (dirty) workaround at least for the SIS 66x/76x Users.
Adding a "vga=788", starts the fbdev driver and it will be used for the
xserver in the installation too.
I still recommend to fix the boot image Xorg server to recognise
"xforcevesa", but at least this quick hack helps.

I am sorry to say, but I don't think it is fixed, as the RC still had
the same issue, so it can't be fixed "a couple of days ago".
