I have found places saying that the cause of gdb not liking the binary
is because of arch incompatibility (32 v 64). I tried this with no
change.

The current install is 10.04 and will probably stay that for the

(probably also others) authentication the Network Manager applet asks
for a either a certificate or to ignore. There is a check box to not
show this dialog again
At this stage I am unable to check (the situation depends on the
flakiness of our network - and they are actually keeping the network up
at the moment).
