Something very similar is happening to me, using jaunty / kubuntu /
radeonhd with Composite/AIGLX on (but not, apparently, with Composite /
AIGLX off). When I select text in firefox (3.0.10) , my whole UI stops
responding to keyboard or mouse input. The caps lock key still works.

Turns out this is partially a duplicate of [[41427]]; I had
inadvertently activated slow keys. In addition, there's another bug:
when adding a new USB keyboard when Slow Keys is activated, the new USB
keyboard doesn't honor the Slow Keys setting. In my case, this made my

When I log in to KDE, either via kdm or via startkde in my .xinitrc, the
built-in keyboard on my laptop fails to respond to any input. The caps
lock, scroll lock, and numlock indicators do not light. Multimedia keys

Some more info: if I click and hold a keyboard key with repeat keys on,
the repeated key will work. So, clicking the down arrow doesn't do
anything for the first 1 sec (my click and hold threshold), then starts
going down continuously. The same for any other key.
