I have installed ubuntu mate 17.10 Beta 2 into a brand new virtualbox machine.
I've installed cifs utils and mounted a samba shared in etc/fstab via:
//192.168.2.6/myshare /media/myshare cifs
iocharset=utf8,credentials=/home/danbuntu/.smbcredentials,gid=1234 0 0
on a reboot

I've just tried with some different media and it's still not working.
However i also tried with a fresh install of ubuntu mate into a vmware machine
and that is working fine - so very odd.
Settings:
non working:
/usr/bin/ffmpeg -y -i "/home/dan/Desktop/mymkv.mkv" -f mp4 -r 29.97
-vcodec libx264
sweet - restore defaults did the trick. It's happily munching trough
some files now.
