For me, this seems to be a kernel 3.16 bug. I can get 14.04.2 LTS to
display the splash by using the 3.13 kernel. Once I boot to the 3.16
kernel, i lose the splash. I made a bug in the kernel meta package.

I use it mainly for caching packages and doing offline installs from the
repository. When I use archive.ubuntu.com, it only does partial saves
of the files. I haven't had a chance to debug more thoroughly.
Steps to replicate:
Set archives to archive.ubuntu.com
Turn OFF offline-mode
Prime cache
Any time estimates of when this will be addressed on14.04 LTS?

Two onboard NIC R8169. One PCIE RTL8192SE. If the module is loaded for
rtl8192se, I will get SW-IOMMU errors after an hour or two. All of the
network interface cards would stop working. Kernel log is filled with
SW-IOMMU errors.

I upgrade to the latest (3.2.0-19.31) and the network interface freeze
continued to occur.
I installed a mainline 3.3.0-030300-generic and it did the same thing.
If I rmmod the rtl8192se module, all the other interfaces become active
again.
I am currently testing the 3.2.0 kernel with both boot
it doesn't seem to be related to amount of traffic. more like 1-2 hours
will cause the sw-iommu issue.
I used Iperf to transfer more than 10GB without freezing. I am using
the device as an access point in master mode.

A proper workaround is to install grub-i386 in on directory and grub-
efi-x86_64 in another. Then in each respective grub.cfg, put configfile
/boot/grub/grub.cfg along with a variable indicating what type it is.
You also need to update your /etc/grub.d files to detect what grub
modules are needed.

after testing for the last few days. The wireless has been pretty
stable. It may be safe to assume that it was a random glitch.
